Lucy had her first day of school last week. She was really excited to be going as you can see from her pictures below. She now attends kindergarten and has loved her first week. I hope her teacher is ready to deal with a strong willed and defiant child. It can’t be the first time one of those has come to kindergarten right?
Her Minnie Mouse back pack, that she has had for a couple of years now, was too small for the papers and folders that they send home from school.
So we had to go get a new one and of course amid all the princess’s, fairies and pink girly back packs Lucy chose a “Cars” back pack. Whatever makes her happy I guess.
Last week our little Jack had his first birthday. We had a small party to celebrate the occasion. My sister in law Liz made Jack a cake, we didn’t really have a theme so we told Liz that what kind of cake we had was up to her. Liz decided that a Jack Skellington cake would be perfect for Jacks first birthday. She created this wonder full cake and these matching cup cakes to go with it.
Jack got to eat the Jack Skellington cake all by himself. At first he wasn’t quite sure what to do with it, but then he dove right in and the results were messy. Our little boy sure enjoyed himself.
We’ve had such a great year with this little boy. His older sister and us sure loves him. We look forward to many more birthday parties but hopefully he’ll learn how to eat cake without coating himself in it.
We signed Lucy up for swim lessons this summer, a neighbor of ours teaches swimming and her classes are one hour a day for one week but she only teaches one student at a time. So Lucy got some really quality one on one instruction.
It was a really good experience for Lucy; she loves to play in the water, though she is not always the best student. She seems to have a bit of her mother in her when it comes to the water. Lariann never cared much for swimming or boating, especially when it came to water that was deeper then she was. Lucy’s teacher had a hard time getting her to do stuff like put her face in the water and jump into the pool, it got better as the week went on.
She loved the free time swim, especially when Stephanie brought her girls with her to play. Hopefully next year she will be a little braver.
One of our traditions for Independence Day is attending the Kaysville 4th of July parade. Mostly because the fire department is in the parade and I work for the fire department. We gather at the Kaysville fire station with other families of the fire fighters to watch the parade. Ariane got the kids Independence Day t-shirts, this was Jacks first 4th of July, he was having a great time until the parade started.
Once it was time for the parade to start Jack was ready for a bottle and nap, Grandma Evans was there to help him with that.
My sister in law Rachel brought her daughter Kira over to the fire station to watch the parade with us.
Kira and Lucy had a great time gathering candy that they were not going to eat and neither was I.
I find this cheap salt water taffy to be less desirable, so I left Lucy’s candy at the fire station for others to enjoy.
I even had brief appearance on the KSL evening news, tossing candy to kids along the sidewalk. Unfortunately there is a tradition in the fire service that if you are identified on the news either on TV or in the paper, you have to bring in treats for the rest of the department. So I brought in stuff for root beer floats last Wednesday.
Television with Lucy The day was bound to come when Lucy discovered that there were TV shows just for little girls. Well that day has come. “My Little Pony” has taken over our house, yes the show and toys from the 1980’s have resurfaced again 20 years later in my house. We now have toys, story books, coloring books and the TV show. It centers around six ponies who have various adventures and there is always some kind of moral lesson they learn at the end. I now know more about these ponies then I ever thought I would, sad to say I can name all the main characters.
The show originally ran in the 1980’s, I don’t know much about it back then , but it looks to be much hipper now than it did 20 years ago.
Man that sure was lame.
Lucy’s favorite is Rainbow Dash.
Arianes Favorite is Pinky Pie
My Favorite is when the show is over. The days of Lucy loving Star Wars and other boy shows appear to be dwindling, but it was a good run while it lasted.
Some of you may recall this awesome picture of my sister in law that I put on my blog just after Easter.
Apparently Rachel did not think it was as funny as I did, though she didn’t notice till three weeks after I had put the picture up. I got a text from her after she saw it, she said, “You are dead!!!!! Once again you have proven that I should have left you in the desert. There may be spiders in places you least expect them. Yes I finally read your Easter post.”
“Strong words”, I thought. Well then the other day Rachel sent this picture to my phone.
She had taken all my St. Louis Cardinals stuff, while I was asleep. Actually it looks kind of awesome in this picture, I have some cool stuff and I think it’s a good look for her. Ariane had let her in to gather everything and even pulled stuff out of my room before I went to sleep. I think Araine felt bad about her roll in this robbery, so she went and picked the stuff up from Rachel’s the next day.
Now the question is, do I get back at her or do I call it even and we both walk away. To answer that I’d like you to meet one of my favorite couple Nikki and John, they are an engaged couple who play wild pranks on each other. They were also the most repeated pranksters on MTV's "Pranked."
It starts out harmless at first
Then it gets messy
Then it gets annoying
Then it gets scary
Then it gets painfull
Then it gets brutal
Is this really the road that Rachel and I want to go down? I suppose only time will tell, but most likely yes.
For awesome Nikki and John pranks, check out their web site http://nikkiandjohn.com/ I should warn you though, the language gets a little rough.
Last week for family home evening we taught Lucy how to play baseball, sort of. Lucy went and got her a small bat, a glove and a soft ball. My parents came over to help us out.
We played a little catch with grandpa.
Then grandpa and I took turns helping her try to hit.
Jack and Grandma sat in the stands and cheered us on as well as seeing how well a baseball glove tastes.
After it was over we all went out for ice cream, Lucy even shared some with her little brother, he liked it more then the baseball glove.
Yesterday Ariane ran a 5K race out in west Kaysville. It was the 2012 Deak’s run for Hope and it benefited the grandson of Arianes visiting teaching companion. Deakon was born with an extremely rare chromosomal abnormality, Ring 18. Essentially the second strand of DNA on his 18th pair is missing some pieces and has formed the shape of a ring, it can cause severe mental retardation and many who have the abnormality do not live very long. This is our neighbor, Jenny and her grand daughter who both also ran the race.
Ariane was not alone in her race though. She had Lucy and Jack with her, not really cheering her on but slowing her down a little.
Here they are before the race.
Ariane did the whole race while pushing these two in the stroller. She was quite prepared, there were snacks, toys and our little DVD player in the stroller with the kids, to try to help fend of boredom. Keeping the kids happy was probably harder than the race itself.
Ariane did pretty good though, she finished with a time of 47:33.8, which give her a 15:18 Min/Mi, and it was good enough for 55th place overall (unknown how many were in the race). Not too bad for someone pushing a stroller with two kids.
After the race they handed out popsicles, which Ariane gave to Lucy, since ridding in the stroller can be very hot work.
Ariane received a t-shirt for her efforts and they raised a lot of money for the research of the Ring 18 abnormality.
When you die, if you get a choice between going to regular heaven or pie heaven, choose pie heaven. It might be a trick, but if it's not, mmmmmmmm boy.
