Halloween

Since it’s about half way through November I thought it was about time to post our Halloween pictures. Following up on last year’s Jack-in-the-box costume Jack went as a Jack-O-Lantern. I’m thinking of dressing him up as donkey next year, let me know if you figure out why. Lucy went as a rock star
And I was Wolverine, though I got asked several times if I was Elvis. Seriously, did Elvis have claws like this?
I’m thinking of using the side burns next year and wearing a sequined jump suit with it, but will probably just think I’m Wolverine.

We had a pretty good October; we did a lot of fun activities with all kinds of friends and family. We took a hay ride with my Mom at the Pumpkin Patch so the kids could pick out a pumpkin.

We went with Grandma and Grandpa Evans to the Black Island Farms Fall Festival and had a good time going down their huge slides, playing on the hay and eating doughnuts.
We also went to Boo at the Zoo at Hogle Zoo with Grandma and Grandpa Evans and Aunt Rachel’s family.
Jack was really impressed with the monkeys, gorillas and orangutans, but then who doesn’t love primates? Basically you wear a costume to the zoo and trick or treat.
It was cold, but still a lot of fun.

We also made a couple of trips to Lagoon for Frightmares with Lucy’s friend Mia.
On Halloween Lucy got to wear her costume to school and had a costume parade for the parents.
We carved the pumpkins for the kids, Jack could really care less about it but Lucy had a good time.
I then went out trick-or-treating with Lucy and Ariane and Jack stayed home to pass out candy. I have been enjoying Lucy’s candy over the past few weeks and can’t wait till next year.

Band Geeks

Earlier this summer Ariane took the kids up to the University of Utah to check out this year’s marching band. Both kids had a great time and got to try out some of the drums.
Both children come from a long lineage of band geeks. Arianes Dad was in the marching band at byu. My Dad was in the marching bad at the University of Utah and several of my aunts and uncles were in the marching in high school and college.

Lariann was in color guard at Davis High.
She then went on to perform in the color guard at Weber State University, where she met and fell in love with some dashing young trombone player.
She made a lot of good friends along the way like Shantel, who she has known since they were in color guard in high school and Lucy a mutual friend of ours and whom we named our daughter after.
Ariane performed in marching band at Roy High and later at Bonneville High. Ariane also went on to play in the marching band at Weber State, where she met but did not fall in love with at that time a dashing young trombone player, but did meet her friend Megan who she has been friends with ever since.
Ariane enjoyed band so much, she went on to major in music education and got a job teaching band at North Ridge High School.
After a few years of that, Ariane decided to go back to school and get her masters in music. The band hired her to be an assistant with the marching band. She helped conduct the marching band.
I played my trombone throughout all of high school at Viewmont where Dave and Spencer and I became great friends.
Then it was on to Weber State University, along with my friend Brandon who also played at Viewmont.
I feel as though marching band has been very good to me, since I met both of my wives through the marching band at Weber State Therefore Jack and Lucy owe their existence to marching band and they are probably destined to be band geeks themselves.

Television With Lucy

Lately Lucy has been obsessed with the show Super Hero Squad, which I must admit is a welcomed break from My Little Pony. It’s a light hearted show about the Marvel super heroes, the regular being the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Wolverine, Captain America and the Silver Surfer, though there are many episodes that involve other of Marvels super heroes like the X-Men and the Fantastic 4. Not only has Lucy become obsessed with watching these super heroes but she is now into playing super heroes as well. Here she is with a group of her little friends playing super heroes.
The show is designed for younger viewers so the plot is not very involved, there is a whole lot of action and a bunch of humor designed to keep kids attention as well as some adults with short attention spans.

First Day of Kindergarten

Lucy had her first day of school last week. She was really excited to be going as you can see from her pictures below. She now attends kindergarten and has loved her first week. I hope her teacher is ready to deal with a strong willed and defiant child. It can’t be the first time one of those has come to kindergarten right?
Her Minnie Mouse back pack, that she has had for a couple of years now, was too small for the papers and folders that they send home from school.
So we had to go get a new one and of course amid all the princess’s, fairies and pink girly back packs Lucy chose a “Cars” back pack. Whatever makes her happy I guess.

Jacks First Birthday

Last week our little Jack had his first birthday. We had a small party to celebrate the occasion. My sister in law Liz made Jack a cake, we didn’t really have a theme so we told Liz that what kind of cake we had was up to her. Liz decided that a Jack Skellington cake would be perfect for Jacks first birthday. She created this wonder full cake and these matching cup cakes to go with it.
Jack got to eat the Jack Skellington cake all by himself. At first he wasn’t quite sure what to do with it, but then he dove right in and the results were messy. Our little boy sure enjoyed himself.
We’ve had such a great year with this little boy. His older sister and us sure loves him. We look forward to many more birthday parties but hopefully he’ll learn how to eat cake without coating himself in it.
