Easter 2012

It was a fun Easter this year for us at our house, with three families to try and visit it gets a little crazy but it sure is fun.

Lucy went and colored Easter Eggs with the Evans family. Here she is with her cousin Kira.

And here is Aunt Rachel with an awesome hairdo and radiant smile.

I sure am glad this picture can be put on the internet.

There was also an Easter egg hunt with the Stevens family. Uncle Jeff was in town for Easter and Aunt Chelsea brought her kids down for the event.

Arianes mom bought all the kid’s yellow “Despicable Me” minion’s shirts, even the babies.

When Lucy finds an egg she likes to make a show of it by holding it over her head and singing a high pitched “AHHHHH”

Sunday morning Lucy found her Easter basket and all kinds of goodies inside.

Jack also had an Easter basket that was full of baby food and some new outfits, as well as the ABCs of “Star Wars” book.

Lucy needed to check out the book first though before it was good enough for Jack.

Everybody got some new shirts for Easter as well.

We sure are a good looking bunch.

The Easter Bunny hid the eggs Lucy colored at my parent’s house for her to go find.

Her favorite egg is the Perry the Platypus egg.

Since it is the celebration of Jesus Christ’s triumph over death, it seemed appropriate to take some flowers to Larianns grave.

Lucy complains from time to time that resurrection sure is taking along time. We all have faith though that it will happen some day and we all be together again as a family, just maybe not as soon as some of us would like.

The 200th Post

My blog has now reached a new milestone. This is the 200th post, yes the bicentennial of posts. It’s been a long fun journey here on the internet, I took the time go and review some of the stats of my blog over the last 200 posts.

It all began on November 3, 2007 with my inaugural post “Welcome to Totally Scott”, a humble beginning for such a great work.

At that time I was working for Southwest Ambulance in Salt Lake City, Lucy was six months old and I was married to Lariann.

After a few posts my blog got a much needed makeover from my friend Dave, who is a graphic artist.

Dave gave it the title “Great Scott” and made the logo, it was inspired by the “Back to the Future” movies where Doc Brown often utters the phrase, “Great Scott”.

My 100th post, which passed unceremoniously, was “Turning 30”, which chronicled my 30th birthday.

At that time I was working for the Church Security Department, Lucy was 2 and a half and Lariann had passed away just a few months prior.

Now here at the 200th post I am still working for the Church Security Department, I am married to Ariane, Lucy is five and Jack is seven months old.

At lot has changed for me in the last 200 posts.

The number one foreign country viewing my blog is the United Kingdom with 686 hits.

Followed by Canada and Germany

The search keywords that bring up the most hits for my blog are Manute Bol.

I did post on him after his untimely death in June of 2010, "Manute Bol".

The most visited post of mine was my "NCAA Mascots" post back in 2009. Apparently when people did a search for mascots such as the Wake Forest or Syracuse mascots my blog was brought up.

I had 2,585 page views of that post.

The person who has posted the most comments is my good friend and creative consultant for my blog Dave Barton.

The most popular topic is Lucy.

The most commented on post was “Here’s Jack”, about Jacks birth.

My blog had its most page views in June of 2011, which was when we were running the polls to try and decide on a "Manly Name" for our upcoming baby. There were 1,970 views that month.

I can’t wait to see where life has taking me when I reach the 300th post on this blog.

Famous Fans: Utah Jazz Edition

Famous Fans: Utah Jazz Edition

Since its basketball season it’s now time for the “Famous Fans Utah Jazz Edition”. The Utah Jazz are not the L.A. Lakers, the New York Knicks or the Chicago Bulls. Jack Nicholsen, Jay Z and Spike Lee do not attend Jazz games regularly. It's pretty slim pickings for celebrities who love the Jazz.

Sisters Kristyn, Kelsi, and Kassidy Osborn of this country music group are from Magna have sung the national anthem at Jazz games early in their careers.







The Osmond Family

Several members of the Osmond family have also sung the national anthem at Jazz games and have been spotted attending various games over the years.




President Thomas S. Monson

President Monson enjoys attending Jazz games when his busy schedule permits but follows the team on TV and in the news paper when he cannot.

There’s even a picture of him and his wife Francis at a Jazz game back in 2008. She sure looks like she is enjoying herself.

Damon Wayans

Despite appearing as Lewis Scott the Utah Jazz’s All-Star shooting guard in the 1996 movie "Celtic Pride", about a couple of Celtic fans who kidnap Scott in order to help the Celtics win the NBA finals, Damon is not a fan of the Utah Jazz, though he is an NBA fan just not of my team.

It’s still cool that they used the Jazz in the movie. I don’t want to spoil anything for anybody out there but the Jazz win the championship in this movie, unlike in real life. I do wish somebody had kidnapped Michael Jordan back in 1997 and 1998.

Redecorating: The Roof Edition

This last December we had some wicked winds come through much of Davis County, in the process we lost a bunch of shingles off the roof and our swamp cooler blew over.

After a visit with the insurance company they gave us a check to fix the roof and few other things that were damaged by the wind. Now being my father’s son I decided to save some money and do the project myself. I contacted some friends and family to come and provide free and unprofessional labor. We started it in mid December, the weather was cold but we got done what needed to get done before the snow came, the rest would wait until the weather improved.

The highlight of the project was when one of my neighbors stopped in front of our house in his truck rolled down his window and yelled at my brother Greg, who had spent most the day working without a coat in just a short sleeve shirt as pictured above, “You must be one tough son of a bitch to be working up their all day without a coat”, it’s the first time Greg has been called tough and the first time he has been called a “son of bitch” in a positive way.

Sure it took me a couple of months to get it all finished when a professional roofing company could have done it in a few days. But the finished project ain’t too bad.

Our roof went from drab brown to distinguished gray; I think it matches our house a little better. This worked out pretty well for us, the shingles would need to be replaced in few years anyway so instead of my paying for that the insurance company did and we made a little extra cash in the process.

I would like to thank all of you who came out and helped with the project. My brother Greg and his wife Stacey and her brother Adam, my father in law Jerry Evans, my brother in laws Kendall Horrocks and Devin Razee, my cousin Mark Bredthauer and his brother in law, my co-worker at Kaysville Fire and neighbor James Wade, my uncle Carl and his kids Daniel and Sarah along with her husband Andrew, my wife Ariane for cooking for everyone and my Dad Paul who has spent more time than anyone else up on my roof.

Jack At Six Months

Jack is now six months old. In honor of this milestone I thought I’d take a look at some of things that enjoys.

He likes to bounce around in his Jumparoo.

He enjoys a warm relaxing bath with a rubber duck or two to keep him company.

He is able to sit up on his own, at least until he gets to excited and falls either forward, back ward or off to either side.

He likes some of the attention he gets from his big sister, tolerates a little more of that attention and hates the rest of the attention. Lucy though loves her little brother and loves to give him attention, whether he wants it or not.

He likes to play with toys. His favorite is probably Boba Fett, the famous bounty hunter from the Star Wars movies, probably because I insist that we give it to him, but it was a gift from his aunt and cousins.

He also enjoys eating food; sweet potatoes are one of his favorite flavors. I sometimes wonder if he gets more on him than in him.

Sometimes it feels like out little Jack is growing up so fast, but he gets more fun every day. Now if only he would start sleeping through the night.

Long Lost Relative

My friend Jason Lunt found this book and sent me a picture of it. The book is about a Boy Scout, Paul Siple, an Eagle Scout from Erie, Pennsylvania with a deep curiosity of nature and the world around him who is selected for what is now a history-making trip to Antarctica in 1928. The book then follows Paul as he travels to Antarctica with world-renowned explorer Commander Richard E. Byrd.

The picture of Paul Siple seems very familiar. However I can find no family relation to this good looking young man. I do feel like my image was stolen though since this is what Paul Siple looks like.

I think I bear a stronger resemblance to the boy on the cover then Paul Siple does. All though this picture does him more justice.

And much later in life.

Is this a preiview of the futer for me? It seems unlikely, I can’t grow a beard like that and I am not going bald.

Still I can’t help but feel that Paul might be some long lost relative or maybe even me in a past life; he did pass away in 1968, so it is possible that I am the reincarnated Paul Sipple. We have a lot in common, he was an Eagle Scout and I am an Eagle Scout. That’s about where all the similarities end.

Lucy Turns Five

Last week Lucy turned five years old. It’s hard to believe that my little girl is getting so big. When she got up that morning we let her open her presents.

Some of her favorites were the Perry the platypus shirt and the new Barbie clothes.

We found a fire fighter outfit, which Ariel is modeling, and a police officer outfit, though that looks like something you would see at a Halloween party rather than by a police officer.

Lucy said she wanted to have a Phineas and Ferb party this year. So we found a bunch of Phineas and Ferb party stuff at the store and we were ready to party.

Aunt Liz was nice enough to make a Perry the platypus cake for the occasion, and it looks great.

My sister Alison, who when she found out that Lucy was having a Phineas and Ferb party asked me when Lucy was going to have a girl party? Well she chose the theme not me this year. In the past we’ve had Cars, Sponge Bob and Star Wars and Lucy has loved them. So when she asks for Princess and Fairies then we will throw a more girl themed party, until then I'll keep enjoying these other parties.

This year we told Lucy she could have a party with friends. We had some kids from the neighbor hood over along with a few cousins and some other friends. We played a few Phineas and Ferb themed games. Like musical chairs with the music from the show, pin the tail on the platypus and my favorite game “Where’s Perry”, where we hide Lucy’s stuffed Perry the platypus and the kids try to find him, those of you who have watched the show know why that’s funny.

It was a lot of fun; Lucy had a real good time and was so excited the whole day. Maybe next year we will have a Princess themed party or a Denver Broncos themed party, we haven’t decided yet.
